The Independent Advisory Group (IAG) in Barnsley enables us to create a genuine partnership with our local and diverse communities.
Through that partnership, our members help us to achieve our policing priorities of protecting vulnerable people, tackling crime and antisocial behaviour and enabling fair treatment.
The information contained on this web page will give some insight into the work that our IAG members do and encourage more people to join us.
If you are interested in joining the IAG please complete form below.
If you live in Barnsley and are passionate about your community, you can become part of the Independent Advisory Group and offer a valuable contribution and input into how communities are policed.
We are looking for new members to join the existing IAG. As a member you will need to have a good understanding of your communities needs and be able to attend meetings to discuss policing in the area.
Barnsley’s Superintendent Cherie Buttle said: “As a member of the IAG, you will be able to offer helpful constructive criticism and independent views, which helps develop our policing style, understand the concerns of local communities and those who may feel underrepresented in Barnsley.
“We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, and are keen to hear from those who are able to represent minority groups such as LGBT+, disabled people and those from an ethnic background.
“To join the IAG, you need to be over 16 years old, live or work in Barnsley and not be employed by South Yorkshire Police.
“The group meets together every three months and training will be given to ensure you are effective as possible as a member.
“This is a great opportunity to get involved in something that will benefit your community, including your family, friends and neighbours for years to come.”
If you want to join and represent your community, please complete the form below and email us. Alternatively, you can post your form to:
