South Yorkshire Police is one of the highest performing forces in the country and we have great aspirations to be the very best we can be for our communities. We are a full spectrum force which means we have a wide range of roles including a dog section, mounted section, specialist firearms officers and we serve a diverse mix of 1.4 million people across a varied range of settings.
We have the challenges and opportunities you find in an inner city setting and the equal but different challenge of our rural communities. This means we can offer you a breadth of experience in a short time, we can keep you busy, stimulated and above all we can enable you to reach your full potential, helping us to reach ours.
We are looking for problem solvers, quick thinkers, people who care but can enforce. We’re looking for the best available and if you believe that is you, we look forward to hearing from you.
There's something special about working for South Yorkshire Police. If you decide to join our policing family, here’s what you can expect:
The Code of Ethics lays out the principles and standards of behaviour that everyone who works in policing can aspire to.
It applies to all officers and staff in England and Wales, in every force, in every role, at every level. It sets out clearly defined principles for our officers and staff to uphold as they work to protect our communities.
The public rightly expect the highest standards of behaviour from the professionals tasked with keeping them safe, often when they are at their most vulnerable. The code will benefit members of the public as it documents the standards of behaviour that they should expect from everyone who they come into contact with at South Yorkshire Police.
Policing is a difficult but rewarding job. Every day we have to make decisions that affect people’s lives, often under extreme pressure. The code is designed to assist this decision making and will also empower our officers and staff to challenge any unethical behaviour they witness.
The skills required to perform the role of a police constable are supported and assessed through the Competency and Values Framework. This sets out nationally recognised behaviours and values, which will provide a consistent foundation for a range of local and national processes. The framework ensures there are clear expectations of everyone working in policing.
Values
The three key values that we are looking for in a police officer are:
Competencies
Throughout our recruitment process we’ll take you through a number of competency and value-based assessments, which are designed to measure your natural engagement and motivation, which are just as important as capability when it comes to creating the best fit between you and the role you have applied for. The assessment is designed to understand what energises and motivates you, as well as what you do well.
Throughout the recruitment process, we’ll be looking for candidates to demonstrate the following competencies:
