Our force control room is the centralised communications centre for South Yorkshire Police, with around 300 members of staff across the different departments working a variety of shift patterns.
Dealing with more than 3,000 calls a day, across 999 and 101, there are on average 1200-1500 incidents within every 24-hour period. Our team are trained to seek the most efficient resolution at the first point of contact, making sure we deploy officers in the most effective way possible. Despite that, no two calls are ever quite the same. One minute you could be noting down the details of a stolen vehicle. The next, you might be taking a report of a sudden death. Whatever the situation, we always strive to provide the highest quality of public service.

To enable you to become effective in role, you must be able to communicate effectively, make decisions using your own initiative and manage your own levels of stress.
You must be able to work as part of a team and have experience of, or an ability to deal with, members of the public over the phone who may at times be upset or angry.
You must be able to work a rotating shift pattern and unsociable hours over a 24/7, 365-day period, for which you will be paid a shift and weekend working allowance.
