On Sunday 4 August, several of our officers were injured during deplorable acts of violence outside the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in the Manvers area of Rotherham. It began at around 11.30am, when a group of 250 arrived in the Manvers area of Wath-upon-Dearne. A further group of around 500 people arrived shortly after. At the same time, a large crowd began to gather in Sheffield city centre, in the Barkers Pool area.
Since this time, a number of people have been arrested and charged in connection with the incidents and our detectives are continuing their complex investigation to identify those involved in the horrendous scenes.
Since the incidents on 4 August, a number of smaller scale protests have taken place, and we are aware of a number of reports circulating in the community and on social media around further potential events across the county. In light of the violent disorder seen in Rotherham, these rumours have caused significant concerns within our communities.
Please be assured we are continuing to closely monitor the situation and we have plans in place to respond to any future disorder.
