Barnsley thug Brad Westerman told officers during his arrest that he was “proud” of his disgusting actions during the large-scale violent disorder outside the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Manvers.
The 24-year-old was part of a mob who launched missiles at officers bravely protecting the hotel and the staff and residents inside.
The behaviour Westerman was so “proud” of included throwing a bin at officers. Following an appeal by South Yorkshire Police, a member of the public identified Westerman as one of those involved in the violent scenes – leading to his arrest.
After he was arrested, Westerman was shown CCTV footage of his despicable actions to which he responded by claiming he had done “nothing wrong”.
Despite this, Westerman pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on 19 August.
Last Friday (30 August), Westerman, of Washington Road, Goldthorpe, Barnsley, was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison at Sheffield Crown Court. He was also given a 10-year Criminal Behaviour Order.
Violent disorder can carry a prison sentence of up to five years. We are continuing to urge our communities to support us in ensuring those involved are punished.
