SYP manhunt locates and extradites wanted child sex trafficker

Our manhunt for convicted child sex trafficker, Sharam Muhamadi, has resulted in him being located, detained, and returned back to the UK yesterday (Tuesday 4 August).

Muhamadi was convicted in his absence on 9 June, when a jury found him guilty of two counts of arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view of exploitation.

After charge, the 21-year-old had been remanded into custody, his defence team's application for bail was later granted by the courts. From Monday 18 May, Muhamadi did not attend the trial.

An extensive manhunt was launched by our officers, which tracked Muhamadi to the West Midlands before he was finally located in Switzerland.

Muhamadi, formally of Hexthorpe Road, was extradited back to the UK and immediately remanded into custody. He appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court today (5 August) and is due to appear at the same court on 3 September.
