1. The total number of reported thefts from jewellery stores for each of the following years: a) 2022 b) 2023 c) 2024 (from January 1st to end of July)

2. For each of the incidents above, please provide: a) A list of the types of items stolen (e.g., watches, rings, necklaces, etc.) b) The estimated total value of stolen items

We approached our Performance Review Unit for assistance with your request. An analyst within this unit has conducted a search of our Crime Management System – Connect which records complaints or allegations of those matters, which the Home Office specify should be recorded as ‘crimes’. All our systems are designed and used first and foremost for Policing Purposes and have limited search capability. They provided me with the enclosed spreadsheet in response and the following explanation regarding their search criteria:

We don’t have a field within the location folder that returns a “jewellers” or similar, this means I’ve had to search in the full address field with the free text “jeweller” and “jewellers”. This search relies on the factor of the business name having the word jeweller or jewellers in there and the name of the business being recorded in the field too and not just “1 Ring Road, AB1 2CD”

Based on this there are only 5 results returned and require manual review.

Criteria Used - Incident Created Date is between 01/01/2022 and 30/06/2024, SYP & crime only filter, Full Address is LIKE (pattern match) %jeweller%, %jewellers%, HO Group Name is equal to / is in THEFT
