Request details
The number of officers who were part of dedicated teams to tackle retail crime and shoplifting in the years 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Response
I sourced your request to our District Crime Teams who have supplied the following information.
2021-2023 – we had 3 dedicated Officers.
2024-2026 – this has increased to 7 dedicated Officers.
However, please note that despite having dedicated Officers, shoplifting is a warranted offence and therefore would be the responsibility of any Officer called to the incident or flagged down by a member of the public etc. to deal with.
Police forces do not use generic systems or identical procedures for capturing the data. For these reasons this response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with responses you may receive from other police forces.
