Request
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I'd like to make a request regarding information on drivers being fined for not wearing their seatbelt in your area.
Specifically, I'd like to request information on the following:
1. How many drivers in total were fined for not wearing a seatbelt in your district from 1st July 2024 - 30th June 2025 (or closest 12 month period if data for this specific range is unavailable)?
2. How many drivers between the ages of 17 and 29 were fined for not wearing a seatbelt in your district from 1st July 2024 - 30th June 2025 (or closest 12 month period if data for this specific range is unavailable)?
3. The number of casualties caused by drivers not wearing a seatbelt in your district from 1st July 2024 - 30th June 2025 (or closest 12 month period if data for this specific range is unavailable)?
4. The top 3 months where you reported the highest numbers of drivers being fined for not wearing a seatbelt in your district from 1st July 2024 - 30th June 2025 (or closest 12 month period if data for this specific range is unavailable)?
Response
Question 1
Question 2
124 drivers between the ages of 17 and 29 were fined for not wearing a seatbelt
Question 3
Please Note: The only seatbelt data available is linked to that specific casualty and is the observation of the attending officer, not subsequent investigation. As such, there could be some under reporting as casualty care takes priority over data recording. There are also additional data recording issues such as missing data / incorrect data / blank records etc.
No Seatbelt – 119
Unknown if wearing seatbelt – 614
Question 4
Please see the table above.
