Theft from Motor Vehicle - Wheels/Tyres

1. Please provide the total number of recorded offences of “theft from a motor vehicle” where wheels and/or tyres were stolen, for each of the last five years (2020–2024).

For this request, “wheels/tyres stolen” refers to any recorded offence where at least one wheel, tyre, or alloy was stolen from a vehicle.

Please provide data by calendar year (Jan–Dec) if available, or by financial year (Apr–Mar) if this is how your data is recorded, and state which has been used.

If “wheels/tyres” are not recorded as a distinct category, please identify relevant offences using Home Office offence codes or keyword searches in the offence description (whichever is easier) and state the codes/keywords used.

I approached our Performance Review Unit for assistance with your request. An analyst within this unit has conducted a search of our Crime Management System - Connect which records complaints or allegations of those matters, which the Home Office specify should be recorded as 'crimes'. All our systems are designed and used first and foremost for Policing Purposes and have limited search capability. They provided me with the below in response and the following explanation regarding their search criteria:

Criteria Used - Incident Created Date is between 01/01/2020 and 31/12/2024, SYP & crime only filter, HO Sub Group Name is equal to / is in THEFT FROM A VEHICLE, Property Status is equal to Stolen, Stolen / Recovered, Property Class 3 is equal to Wheel, Wheel Trims/Hub Caps, Tyres

Note the volumes for the middle table are slightly higher than the other two tables – this is because multiple items may have been stolen on one investigation
