Problem Solving and Demand Reduction Programme support College of Policing’s annual CPD event

The Problem Solving and Demand Reduction Programme (PSDR), led by South Yorkshire Police on behalf of all forces, is supporting the College of Policing’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event to help embed problem solving into future ways of working across police forces nationally.

The theme of this year’s annual event is ‘doing what you do best’ and it will take place over two weeks from Monday 11th to Sunday 24th November.

To assist Police Officers and staff in improving and honing their work based skills, throughout the fortnight the College of Policing will be holding a number of different interactive online learning sessions, based around the current national objectives, to contribute to and support you in your professional development.

In support of this event, the PSDR programme have created a number of videos to help officers and staff embed problem solving as a core discipline in policing.

These videos include Project lead Superintendent Colin McFarlane providing an overview of the three-year innovation project and benefits each work stream will bring to police forces, partners and members of the public. Jim Cunningham a team member from last year’s overall Tilley Award winning project, also explains how they used problem solving methodology within their project to successfully assist in improving community safety and reducing criminality.

In addition to these videos, problem solving subject matter experts, Sylvia Chenery and Professor Stuart Kirby, explain the theory behind problem solving and how it can be incorporated at foundation, practitioner, strategic and specialist levels, through the assistance of the Learning and Development interim practice advice document.

To explore this further and to create the opportunity for you to ask questions on how you can implement problem solving into your future development, Professor Stuart Kirby is also hosting a live flipped classroom event.
