Police Support Volunteers

Building stronger safer neighbourhoods is paramount to the organisation and is something everyone can be involved in.  South Yorkshire Police is now happy to announce the launch of its recruitment drive to encourage members of the community to become involved as Police Support Volunteers.

What are Police Support Volunteers

The Home Office states that a volunteer is someone ‘who commits time and energy for the benefit of society, the community, environment and or individuals, undertaking this freely and by choice, without concern for financial gain'

Police Support Volunteers (PSVs) are to provide an additional resource to undertake roles that are not provided by support staff or police officers.  With increasing demands on police services these roles enhance the work already carried out by South Yorkshire Police.

The amount of time a PSV gives is dependent upon the individual and is agreed during the application process.  Due to the sensitive nature of our work PSVs will be expected to go through the same security checks as all police staff
