South Yorkshire Police Sergeants Promotion Process 2017

**This process is only open to current serving Police Constables**

We are looking for exceptional officers who are seeking promotion to the rank of Sergeant to help lead our staff and deliver the best possible service to the public of South Yorkshire.


The process will be open to internal and external candidates and will comprise of 2 stages –  application form and interview including presentation/work sample test.  Application form and interview questions will be based around Level 2 of the Competency and Values Framework (CVF).  Application packs will be available upon request from Monday 15th May 2017 which coincides with the results from the most recent Ospre Legal Exam.


Further details of the process will be provided at a preparation workshop which will be held at South Yorkshire Police Training Centre, Robert Dyson House,  Unit 5, Doncaster Road, Wath Upon Dearne, S63 7EF.  We are able to offer two dates for the workshop: 15th May 2017 08.30am-10.30am or 23rd May 2017 08.30am-10.30am.

There is no upper age limit for applying, but bear in mind that normal retirement age is 60 years and that new recruits are required to undertake a two-year probationary period. You will also need to have a full manual EU driving licence.

South Yorkshire Police – Student Officer Recruitment – Transfer of Police SEARCH Assessment Centre Pass Marks

South Yorkshire Police are accepting the transfer of Police SEARCH Assessment Centre results.

The criteria for transferring your results is as follows: 

  • You must have attended a Police SEARCH Assessment Centre with another Home Office Force.
  • You must have sat your assessment centre within the last 24 months.
  • Your pass at assessment centre must be with an overall score of 50% or above. Please note that all minimum scores must also have been achieved. 
  • You must hold a Level 3 Qualification or above.
  • You must hold a full UK Driving Licence.

Please email a copy of your official SEARCH feedback report, your level 3 (or above) qualification certificate, full driving licence, a copy of your original application and the reason for your transfer request to:

Please use the subject heading ‘South Yorkshire Police – Transfer Pass Mark Request’ on your email

Your transfer request will then be considered. Please note, we will not be able to consider your transfer of pass mark request until we receive all of the above documentation.

If your transfer of pass mark is accepted you will be required to undertake an in Force interview prior to move to the next stage of recruitment.
