Firearms Licensing

We are responsible for issuing firearm licences to people who live in South Yorkshire:

Using the forms on this website you can apply for:

  1. Firearms certificates
  2. Shotgun certificates
  3. Firearms dealers registrations
  4. Home Office approved target clubs
  5. European firearms pass
  6. Uk visitors firearms/shotgun permits

There are different age restrictions for owning and using firearms and shotguns, and you can find those details here.

We also deal with two types of explosive licences.

  1. Acquire only certificate, which enables you to obtain and use explosives on the day they are acquired but not to store them. It is valid for 12 months.
  2. Acquire and keep certificate, which enables you to obtain explosives and keep them over a period of time. The certificate will specify how much you can possess and they must be kept in safe storage. This can be valid for up to three years.

There are fees for applying for a firearm licence and you can find these here.

Some of your frequently asked questions are answered here but if you cannot find what you are looking for contact the Firearms Licensing Department.
