Re-appeal for information - serious road traffic collision Church Road, Stainforth

Police are releasing CCTV footage of a serious road traffic collision, that has left a 16-year-old girl in hospital, in a fresh bid for witnesses and information one month on from the incident.

Local girl Rebecca Jones was was standing at a bus shelter at Church Road, Stainforth, with two friends when it was hit by a green Vauxhall Vectra about 50 yards from the junction with Junction Road. Following the collision the occupants of the vehicle ran away from the scene.

Rebecca suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Sheffield Children's Hospital in a poorly condition. She remains in hospital and today her condition is described as slowly improving but stable.

Officers investigating the incident are urging the driver of the Vectra, that was travelling towards Stainforth Police Station along Church Road, Stainforth, that was involved in the collision just before 8pm on Saturday 20 December 2008 to contact South Yorkshire Police on 0114 220 2970.

Temporary Inspector Steve Askham who is heading the case said: "I ask members of the community to think about how they would feel is their child's life had been changed forever by the actions of a complete stranger and whether they would want that person to remain anonymous and unaccountable."
