Wheatley and Intake in road crime op

Last month, as part of Operation Impact Wheatley and Intake Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) conducted an automatic number plate recognition  initiative on Leger Way, Doncaster.

Operation Impact is an eight-week operation across Yorkshire and the Humber, addressing issues that affect local communities.

PC Liam Walters and his team along with staff from the DVLA clocked registration plates as vehicles came towards them to ensure drivers had insurance and tax. Out of the 4,480 vehicles checked, seven were clamped for having no road tax.

VOSA staff dipped tanks to ensure people were not using red diesel to fuel their vehicles.  One driver was fined £500 by HM Customs and Excise for using red diesel.

Officers also issued two £60 fixed penalty tickets to drivers for not wearing a seat belt.

PC Liam Walters said, "This multi-agency operation was aimed at taking drivers who fail to tax, insure their vehicles or run them on illegal fuel, off the road. The SNT will continue to work on road crime operations with partners."
