Police warn drivers about traffic disruption – U2 concert tonight
The U2 concert is being held at the Don Valley Stadium this evening, Thursday August 20, with an expected attendance of 50,000.
A number of road closures have already been implemented and others will follow from 6pm. The concert is due to finish at 10.30pm with serious traffic congestion expected in the surrounding area until 2am tomorrow, Friday August 21.
Police are advising motorists to expect delays in the Don Valley and Attercliffe areas and towards the M1 corridor. Drivers should follow the diversion signs or use alternative routes, and check local media for up-to-date traffic information.
The following road closures are in force from 4am this morning until 2am tomorrow morning, Friday August 21:
WHITWORTH LANE
HOWDEN ROAD
FELL ROAD
OLD HALL ROAD
LEEDS ROAD (staffed by uniformed officers from 7am to deter parking)
The following roads will be closed from 10pm to 11.30pm this evening, Thursday August 20:
COLERIDGE ROAD (from the junction with Attercliffe Road to the junction with Tinsley Park Road)
ATTERCLIFFE COMMON (from the junction with Newhall Road to the junction with Janson Street)
BEVERLEY ROAD
