Operation Alliance in Armthorpe

Operation Alliance is a multi-agency initiative to tackle crime and work with communities to make Doncaster a safer place to live.

Armthorpe Calm estate was targeted from Monday 16 March to Friday 27 March to reduce antisocial behaviour, provide reassurance to the community and address environmental issues.

There were two road crime operations with the police automatic number plate recognition team, HM Revenue and Customs, DVLA, VOSA and Doncaster Council.

113 vehicles were tested for red diesel and one driver received a £500 fine and his vehicle was seized as red diesel was found. Six vehicles were seized for not having insurance and seven fixed penalty tickets were issued for offences such as not wearing a seat belt and using a mobile phone whilst driving.

DVLA clamped 13 vehicles, as they did not have road tax, VOSA served eight prohibitions taking vehicles off the road for defects that can affect the safety of the vehicle.

Doncaster Council identified three rogue traders and prosecuted four people for not having a trade waste licence.

Shops were targeted in test purchase operations to ensure they were not selling alcohol and knives to people under the legal age. 34 premises were checked and one received a fine for selling a knifeOfficers working on Operation Alliance to a minor.

An additional 576 hours of patrols were carried out in Armthorpe including the police mounted section, Doncaster Council and police officers and police community support officers.

Officers issued 170 vulnerable vehicle forms to people as property was left on display in their cars.

Two truancy operations were conducted with Doncaster Council with several 4 children being found out of school and are now working with agencies.

CCTV cameras were installed on the Calm Estate and a mass clean up was conducted. Two tonnes of rubbish was removed and many plants and shrubs were planted. The community centre was refurbished with a new glass floor in the rear yard, a fresh coat of paint and a burglar alarm. The centre is now more popular than ever!

Operation Alliance encouraged community interaction and Doncaster Council and voluntary organisations helped the SNT achieve this with local adults, youths and children.

A group of residents formed an action team to look at developing the estate and engaging with the rest of the community. A parent and toddler group, beauty sessions for young people and football lesson were established as part of Operation Alliance.

Doncaster Council contacted 30 young people to reduce antisocial behaviour through outreach work.

Sergeant Wayne Goodwin said, "This has been a fantastic opportunity to bring together partners to make improvements in the area. The community has started to come together and these improvements will be sustainable."

Crime in the area was reduced by almost 50% during March.

A 10-year-old girl from Tranmoor Primary School won a digital camera in a design a mural competition for the rear of the community centre.
