The Hyde Park Safer Neighbourhood Team tackles community issues
All safer neighbourhood teams (SNT) hold monthly community meetings called Partners and Communities Together (PACT) for residents to meet officers and council staff and to talk about issues that affect them and how the safer neighbourhood team can help.
Antisocial behaviour in the stairwells of Bretton House, Balby Bridge estate was identified as an issue at the last meeting. The SNT have arrested two people for criminal damage, one person was cautioned and four antisocial behaviour contract warning letters were issued. One youngster's family was referred for the Family Intervention Programme and one young person was referred to Youth Intervention Support Services.
Issues in Sandbeck House, on Balby Bridge estate was also tackled. 29 people were searched, two people were arrested for criminal damage, one person was arrested for breaching bail and alcohol was confiscated. Doncaster Council issued an injunction for a person sleeping rough on the stairwells and an unoccupied flat was repossessed after illegal occupation.
SNT officers stopped and searched people outside the shops at the junction of Chequer Road and Carr House Road to address antisocial behaviour. The "Cop at a Shop" initiative was launched which involves officers patrolling shops, dispersing youngsters and working with shopkeepers. New Deal for Communities provided funding for the "Cop at a Shop" initiative which has been an outstanding success in Hyde Park.
Sergeant Gary West said, "These meetings are effective in identifying issues that matter to the community and we jointly agree what the teams will be working on for the next month."
A further priority was set to target businesses and educational establishments that have been experiencing thefts.
The meetings for Hyde Park, Balby Bridge, Belle Vue are on the last Thursday of every month (next one on 30 April) at 6.30pm in the DEMRP building (next to "Fish Bits" fish shop), in the upstairs meeting hall.
