Double Crack House Closure in Sheffield

A hearing at Sheffield Magistrates Court on  Tuesday 14th July 2009 led to the closure of two ‘Crack Houses', the first double closure in Sheffield.

Officers from the Burngreave Safer Neighbourhood Teams along with other police resources carried out a drugs warrant at two separate addresses on Fox Street, Burngreave.

Officers executed the warrants after the local community expressed concerns about drug dealing and antisocial behaviour from the two properties.

Because of the warrants executed on Saturday 27th June 2009, two people were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the possession, and supply of class ‘A' drugs, and are currently on police bail pending further enquiries.

A/SGT Antony Pollitt from the Sheffield ASBO Team, attended at Sheffield Magistrates Court to make an application for the double Crack House closure at these address.

At the hearing district, Judge Brown ordered the two separate premises on Fox Street be closed in accordance with the Antisocial Behaviour Act 2003. The two houses have been boarded up for three months, and no one may enter the premise without facing possible prosecution.

Supt Andy Barrs said:" We are extremely pleased with the decision made by the court today, it represents a shining example of how local people, the police and partners can work together to tackle the illegal supply of controlled drugs and reduce antisocial behaviour. The result represents a major success for the local PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meeting in Burngreave led by Inspector Simon Leake".

Police now appeal to the public to help them to continue tackling drug crime and disorder within our communities. Anyone with any information about this type of crime is urged to contact their local police station or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
