Alcohol watch in Doncaster

Home Office funding led to a multi-agency campaign to tackle alcohol related crime and antisocial behaviour in Doncaster.

Officers on additional evening and weekend patrols in February and March all over Doncaster confiscated 71 litres of alcohol from 88 young people; conducted test purchase operations resulting in 26 fixed penalty tickets issued out of the 115 shops visited.PC Mike Dewsnap wearing the headcam

Premises who failed test purchase operations in the town centre marked their alcohol with alcohol watch stickers; irremovable labels which allow confiscated alcohol to be traced back to premises. This was part of actions plans implemented to solve the issue.

A small number of "headcams" were used to help gather evidence during test purchase operations.

Large media screens warning of the dangers of binge drinking were shown in the town centre.

Police Community Support Officers patrolled shop fronts where antisocial behaviour and street drinking was an issue.

Inspector Mark Payling said, "There was an enhanced and impactive increase in resources for this operation. Doncaster was chosen by the Home Office as one of five out of 50 areas to highlight the successful and innovative operation."
