Families pay tribute - House fire - Albert Road, Sheffield

The families of Trevor Richardson and Barry Nicholson, two of the three men who died following a house fire at Albert Road, Sheffield, on January 2, yesterday paid tribute to them.

In a statement released yesterday afternoon (7/1/09), Mr Richardson's sister, Mrs Brenda Peters, said: "Trevor was a friendly, outgoing person with a heart of gold who would do his best to help anyone. He was particularly close to Barry (Nicholson) whom he looked on as a father figure. Trevor adored his children and was devoted to his family and girlfriend.

"We are devastated that Trevor has been taken from us in such a horrific manner and we are trying to come to terms with our loss. We would request that we are given the opportunity to grieve in private."

A female cousin of Mr Nicholson, who did not want to be named, said: "Barry will be dearly missed by all of us. Although over these last few years he had taken a decision to make a life for himself away from our family, he was always and always will be regarded as a member of it.

"He was a brilliant electrician and could turn his hand to almost anything else he wished to do. He had a big heart and would help anyone who asked himself to do so.

"As a family we will remember the fun and laughter we have shared with Barry in the past."

Three people, including two teenagers, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates Court today in connection with the deaths. They have been remanded in custody to reappear at Sheffield Crown Court next Wednesday, January 14.
