Local school children help SNT tackle parking problem in Balby, Doncaster.
Children from Balby Central School have helped the Hexthorpe and Balby safer neighbourhood team set up a traffic project after complaints were received from residents about parking issues outside the school.
Residents from Littlemoor Lane and Gresley Road complained at their local community meeting about people who were collecting children from school and parking inconsiderately outside their houses.
Eight-year four pupils from the School designed posters and worked with officers from the SNT to conduct patrols outside the school at times when children were being picked up and dropped off. They offered advise to the drivers about the dangers of parking illegally as well as general safety messages.
The children devised their own warning tickets, which were issued to drivers who were causing unnecessary obstructions. They were also advised that they would be issued with a fixed penalty notice if they continued to park like this.
Police Community Support Officer Jayne Barnes said: “This project has been fantastic. We have engaged with the local school and put an important message out to drivers. The children really enjoyed the project and it helped to educate them about road safety too.”
