New legislation used for the first time in South Yorkshire
The Rossington Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) obtained an antisocial behaviour closure order for a property on Radburn Road in Rossington, Doncaster.
The order was passed at Doncaster Magistrates’ court on Tuesday 3 March for three months, following a long history of antisocial behaviour at the house.
The community reported the occupants of the house, a woman in her late 30s, had been involved in drinking in the street and various types of criminal and nuisance activity in and around the council property.
The tenant was continuously given support from Doncaster Council, St Leger Homes of Doncaster and the voluntary sector through various schemes over the years, however her behaviour remained unchanged, which led to the Rossington SNT, in partnership with St Leger Homes applying for the closure order.
PC Mike Dewsnap said, "This is the first closure of its kind in South Yorkshire. This closure order is crucial in helping us improve the quality of life for residents of the Radburn Estate and working closely with partners and residents we will continue to target those that adversely affect the quality of life in our neighbourhood."
Mayor Martin Winter, Chair of Safer Doncaster Partnership, said: "I am committed to making Doncaster a safer place for residents. The closure of this property in Rossington sends out an important message that we will never tolerate anti-social behaviour in Doncaster and will punish those who do not abide by the law."
Judith Jones, Acting Chief Executive at St Leger Homes, said, "We are always happy to work with tenants when they are happy to work with us.
"We are pleased we have been instrumental in securing the closure order. We will not tolerate antisocial behaviour on the estates we mange. We will continue to work hard with our partners to tackle such conduct."
