Central SNT save the day for one man stranded in the cold

It was Central Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) to the rescue again recently when a man’s mobility scooter broke down on Sheffield Road, Barnsley, leaving him stranded on a bitterly cold January evening.

Out on their everyday foot patrol duties, PCSOs Paul Denton and Andrew Sharp saw a 55-year-old man from the area looking distressed at the side of the road on 12 January at around 6pm. His mobility scooter had stopped working and Neil noticed the man looked very cold.

After moving the man into the warmth of the police car, the PCSOs called for assistance from their colleagues who quickly brought over a van to transport the broken scooter home. The man was also escorted to his address, back to the warmth and safety of his own home.

Central SNT PCSO Peter Denton said, “Cases like this make foot patrolling even more rewarding. PCSOs spend approximately 80% of their time patrolling areas which is around 25-30hrs a week, walking the streets around the town centre, Worsbrough Dale and Smithies .”
