Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault near a tram stop.

The incident occurred on Friday August 7 at 10pm near to Manor Top tram stop, opposite Netto supermarket, Sheffield.

It is believed the male complainant was attacked from behind by a group of four or five men as he headed towards the city.

He was hit on the head and repeatedly struck whilst on the floor. He suffered cuts to the back of his head and eyebrow, which required hospital treatment.

The offenders, possibly Asian or black, were all wearing dark clothing and one may have been carrying a wooden bat or metal bar.
