Officers in Wath tackle nuisance and antisocial behaviour with a new off-road vehicle

Wentworth North Safer Neighbourhood Team have a new tool to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour in their area.

It is a Kymco 400cc MXU All Terrain Vehicle (ATV), more commonly known as a quad bike. The vehicle was kindly donated to South Yorkshire Police by Kymco UK and it will be used by specially trained SNT officers to tackle antisocial behaviour and nuisance off-road bikers.

PC Craig WhiteWith funding from the Safer Rotherham Partnership, PCs Craig White and PC Brett Thompson, from Wentworth North SNT, were given lessons on how to drive the quad bike safely, on and off-road, and have also been provided with protective clothing for all weather riding.

PC Craig White said: “The bike will allow us access to otherwise inaccessible parts of the community and also extends the capability of how we respond to antisocial behaviour and calls about nuisance vehicles.”

Ian Kidson, the Managing Director at MASCO Limited said: “Kymco UK is pleased to support Wentworth North SNT with the donation of this ATV. The MXU400 road legal quad is a great looking machine. It provides the team with an innovative alternative mode of transport and a new way of engaging with the local community.”

PCs Craig White and Brett Thompson will now be using the vehicle while they patrol the Wentworth North area. They are also visiting local schools to show the teenagers the quad bike, while explaining to them what it will be used for and to highlight the dangers and consequences of illegal off-road biking and antisocial behaviour.
