Seven injured in multi-vehicle M1 collision

Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision on the M1 at 12.30 this morning, Friday, 30 April 2010.

The collision involved six vehicles, three of which collided with debris from the initial collision.

A light coloured Seat Alambra (people carrier), a black BMW and a black Leon Cupra are believed to have been travelling northbound on the M1 between junctions 33 and 34 when they have collided.

No one is believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries.

Four children and one adult passenger in their 20s from the Seat have been taken to Rotherham District General Hospital, the Northern General Hospital and The Children's Hospital in Sheffield with injuries.

One of the four children, an 11-year-old boy, is believed to have sustained a serious head injury and was taken to Rotherham DGH.

The drivers from the Leon and BMW have been taken to NGH with minor injuries.
