Police get tough on antisocial behaviour in Dodworth

Antisocial behaviour in and around Pogmoor Recreation Ground, Pogmoor Road is being targeted by Dodworth Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT).

Large groups of both males and females aged between 14-17 are using the area as a social hangout. The effects of the problem were highlighted by members of the public who complain of nuisance and illegal behaviour being carried out by some young people.

Reports of turf being kicked up, littering, underage drinking and abusive language being used are just some of the concerns local have been experiencing in the past two months.

Dodworth SNT has been focusing policing in the area since it was made a PACT (partners and communities together) priority. Regular patrols are carried out to deter antisocial behaviour and provide reassurance to locals. Police have been speaking to youngsters in the area and ensuring they are aware of the consequences nuisance and illegal behaviour can bring to those affected.

BMBC have also installed a CCTV camera to monitor activities in the area.

PCSO Andrea Batty said:“Most of the teenagers are using the area for its rightful purpose, to socialise and have fun. I would stress though that it’s a small minority who are spoiling it for all by engaging in antisocial behaviour. We are most concerned about the underage drinking that occurs in the area and often acts as an instigator for such behaviour.

“I’m happy to say that since we have been focusing policing in the area, there has been no more reports made which suggests that young people are listening to police. We will continue to monitor the issue and I encourage anyone who sees anything illegal or suspicious to contact us.”
