Mother wants 'justice for Josh' in Queens Road murder investigation appeal
The mother of Joshua Green, the man fatally injured during a New Year’s Eve party on Queens Road, has issued a plea for witnesses to assist South Yorkshire Police’s ongoing murder investigation.
At around 2.47am on Sunday, 1 January 2012, a confrontation in the Stars Suite led to Joshua, 27, from Manor Park, Sheffield, being stabbed and dying at the scene.
Sarah Thompson, Joshua’s mother, said: “My son, Joshua Green or Josh to us, was murdered in Stars and Mayfair club, Sheffield on New Year’s Day morning. The police have not yet identified and charged his killer. I ask that if anyone saw Josh that night or saw what happened to him in the club that they come forward to the police and help.
“Josh was a father of two beautiful little children, he was a wonderful Dad and loved his children dearly; they are now left fatherless. Josh was a good brother and a kind son, everyone loved him, he had such a happy personality, always laughing and joking, I miss his smiling face.
“During this last year, Josh seemed to settle down and mature, he had decided to apply to university to study IT and do something with his life, for his children.
“Josh has now lost his life; it was taken from him in a cruel way whilst he was out enjoying himself and celebrating. No one deserves to die in this way, so if anyone has any information please, I ask of you, speak with the police whether in confidence or as a witness and help us get justice for Josh.“
Detective Superintendent Andy Thompson said: “The investigation team has spoken to numerous people but we’re still aware that many others have not come forward.
“I wish to encourage anyone who was at the party or anyone with information to speak to us in confidence. Extensive forensic work is ongoing and a number of people have been arrested and released on bail in connection with our investigation.”
Anyone with information should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 516 of Sunday, 1 January, or call the incident room on 0114 2963159.
