Police launch investigation after body found in Gleadless
Police have begun an investigation after the body of a middle-aged man was found on an open grassed area, off Raeburn Road, Gleadless, Sheffield, this morning.
Officers were alerted at around 6.45am yesterday, Sunday, 20 June, by the ambulance service after the man had been spotted by a passer-by near to the entrance of Herdings Park. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Enquiries by police, including scenes of crime officers, are now underway in the area to try and establish what happened.
A post mortem examination is due to take place this afternoon at Sheffield's Medico Legal Centre to determine the cause of death.
Police believe they know who the man is, but his identity has not yet been confirmed.
The death is being treated as suspicious at this stage as a matter of routine.
