Boy seriously injured after Westfield bus collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a five-year-old boy suffered serious injuries when he was in collision with a bus at Westfield, Sheffield, yesterday evening.

The incident happened at 6.25pm on Saturday, 19 June, on Shortbrook Road, at the junction with Cowley Gardens.

At this stage it is believed that the youngster was riding a pedal cycle from the direction of Cowley Gardens when he collided with the front nearside of the single decker, which was travelling towards the centre of Westfield.

The boy, who is local, suffered serious injuries to his head and abdomen. He is detained in The Children's Hospital, Sheffield.

Police are appealing for anyone in the area, including those travelling on the number 41 bus, who may have witnessed the collision to contact them on the South Yorkshire Police witness helpline - 0114 220 2970.
