Car in collision with cyclists

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision that has left one cyclist with serious injuries and another in a life-threatening condition in hospital.

At 7:20pm on Thursday 19 August, 2010, the two cyclists were travelling along High Common Lane towards the A638 Great North Road, Austerfield, Doncaster on their racer-style pedal cycles. The collision occurred when a red Skoda Fabia travelling in the opposite direction, crossed into the opposite carriageway and collided with the two cyclists.

One of the cyclists, a 52-year-old Rossington man, was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI) with life-threatening full-body injuries. The other cyclist, a 51-year-old man from Bessacarr, received serious leg, back and head injuries and was also taken to DRI.

The driver of the Skoda, a 48-year-old man from Doncaster, sustained slight chest injuries in the collision.
