Safety tips for elderly Barnsley residents

Officers from the Hoyland SNT have helped elderly residents improve their personal safety.

On Thursday 8 April 2010, PC Robert Sharman and PCSO Glen Wilson visited 25 residents at Glebe Court sheltered housing, Tankersley, Barnsley, to talk about bogus callers, home security and Neighbourhood Watch.

Each resident was also given a Home Office Secure Your Home Pack, containing further crime prevention advice, discounts for home security items at B&Q and Homebase and advice about how to set up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

PCSO Wilson said: “I think the residents that attended achieved a real sense of self security which improved their confidence. They felt reassured that police know where they are and are here to help.

“It’s a very good centre because they don’t have any problems but meeting the SNT and asking us questions helped allay any fears they had. We plan to go back again.”
