Police promote cycle safety

Kendray and Worsbrough Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) has been promoting cycle safety to youngsters at a community event recently.

PCSO Rob Peacock explained to youngsters aged between 10 to 16 from Barnsley Academy, Farm Road, how to ensure they ride safely on their bikes, particularly as the lighter nights bring ideal weather to increase their outdoor activities.

Free sets of bike lights were given to those who PCSO Peacock felt had a quality sense of cycle safety knowledge and initiative.

PCSO Peacock said: “Policing is not just about arresting people, it’s about helping people. In 2009 there were no children killed between the ages of 0-15 as a result of traffic collisions on the roads of South Yorkshire. One of the reasons for this could be the increase in awareness of road safety that youngsters have.”
