Barnsley beauty spot Vulnerable Vehicle Scheme
South Yorkshire’s beauty spots may appear safe and crime free.
But officers from the Penistone Safer Neighbourhood Team would like to warn motorists parking at scenic stops, such as the Trans Pennine Trail and Winscar Reservoir, to ensure their valuables are hidden from the view of opportunist thieves.
PCSO Anthony Holmes will be visiting beauty spot car parks on Saturday 8 May to reassure day-trippers and beauty spot visitors – but also to deter thieves.
He will be patrolling car parks at Langsett Barn, Winscar Reservoir, Dunford Bridge and the Trans Pennine Trail.
PCSO Holmes will be providing crime prevention advice to motorists seen leaving valuables, such as handbags, SatNav’s or mobile phones, on display.
PCSO Holmes, of Penistone SNT, said: “I’m going to be making people aware that although you may think you are safe to leave valuables on display when parked at beauty spots, we do unfortunately get opportunist thieves who will visit these car parks at weekends when car parks are busier. Park and Hide signs are placed in car parks advising motorists to keep valuables out of sight.”
