Junior Wardens visit Doncaster Fire Station
A junior warden scheme organised by the Hyde Park Safer Neighbourhood Team has ended in a trip to Doncaster Fire Station to raise awareness of the dangers of hoax calls and arson.
The scheme which has taken place over a six-week period was organised by Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Tracie Evans, and Community Safety Warden Michael Mulligan. Eight children in years five and six at Townfields School have taken part in the scheme, covering issues such as antisocial behaviour and anti bullying.
The trip to the fire station was included as part of the scheme to ensure the youngsters were aware of how dangerous fire can be and the work that the fire fighters do. The children were shown around the station and watched a video warning of the dangers of playing with fire and hoax calls. They then had chance to explore the fire engine and see the equipment used to put out fires. They were even able to try on some of the fire kit worn by the fire fighters.
An event has been organised at the end of the scheme where the young people will be presented with certificates for all their hard work.
PCSO Tracie Evans for the Hyde Park Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “This is a fantastic scheme for young people to take part in activities and learn about different organisations. The trip to the fire station was a great way for the young people to have fun but also understand the risks of fire in the community and how it can devastate lives. We hope the message will stay with them as they get older.”
