Glass bottle thrown at bus travelling through Dinnington injures a 12-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy
Police are appealing for information and witnesses in connection to an act of criminal damage that led to a 13-year-old boy receiving a head injury and a 12-year-old girl suffering a cut to her chin.
The incident happened at about 8:45pm on Friday 26th February on Lordens Hill, near to the Bargain Booze off-licence.
The single-decker 19A bus, travelling from Rotherham Interchange to Worksop, was passing through Lordens Hill, past the junction with Leicester road towards North Anston, when a green glass bottle was thrown at the front offside bus window.
The bottle smashed through the window and still intact, hit the back of the 13-year-old boy’s head and neck before impacting on the floor of the bus. It shattered with shards of glass flying through the air, hitting the 12 year-old girl’s face and hands, one of which cut the girl’s chin.
Both victims, who were with a small group of friends at the time of the incident, were taken to Bassetlaw Hospital and received treatment for their minor injuries. They were later discharged in the early hours of Saturday.
The majority of the bottle has been recovered and is currently being tested for DNA and fingerprints.
PC Shaun Rhodes said: “Unfortunately, the witnesses we have spoken to already do not recall seeing anyone outside on the street, either before or after the bottle was thrown through the bus window.
“I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed what happened, or perhaps was in or near the Bargain Booze off-licence, near the Leicester Road junction at about 8:45pm on Friday night.
A thoughtless act of criminal damage has led to two children being injured and I would appeal to anyone who knows anything about this to come forward and contact the police straight away.”
