Strategic Policing Priority 1 - Improve Confidence & Satisfaction

Why is this a priority for SYP?

Increasing public satisfaction is important to us.

We want you to know that you can count on us to be there when you need us.  If you do need our help, we want to provide the best service possible, ensuring that you are satisfied with the work we do.  We need you to help us in this process to assist in driving down crime and antisocial behaviour.  You may not realise, but the information you provide us with is vital to the successful policing of your local community.

SATISFACTION:

Why is this important?

We want to ensure that when you call us, we deliver the service you want.  Satisfaction levels with the service we provide to you in times of need is measured by independent surveys.  Considerable work has already been undertaken to improve how we respond to the needs of those who contact us.  Your satisfaction with our service delivery has increased to 85% from a baseline figure 79% year ending 2007/08.  We can attribute this increase to a changes in some of our processes and improved training for our staff in service delivery.

How we will achieve this?

In order to meet budget shortfalls we need to make sure that the way we do things now is the best way we continue to do them.  Sometimes, we may need to make decisions based purely on how much money we can save by not doing something, or doing it differently.   An example of this is our enquiry desk review.

We are looking at the number and location of enquiry desks compared to how often you use them.  We will need to make decisions as to whether some enquiry desks should close (if they are hardly used) or consider if the ones we keep are in the right locations.

We are going to continue to improve our performance in keeping victims informed of cases.  For example, we have seen a lot of success in the use of texting in Doncaster so we are going to make this available in Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham.  We have also changed one of our computer systems so that we can record how and when you prefer to be contacted after you have reported crimes to us.

We will also continue to use surveys, focus groups and local community meetings to make sure we know what’s important to you and keep you informed of policing in South Yorkshire.
