Home Office “Business Plan 2010-11” – November 2010

This site allows you to check how every Government department is performing in delivering on the priorities set out in its business plan.  You can search by department and by month to check performance against each of the departments' priorities. 

Home Office “Reducing Bureaucracy in Policing” – October 2010

This is the fourth and Final Report; an Interim Report published in February 2009 highlighted the need to focus on the causes of bureaucracy rather than symptoms.  The full report published in December 2009 proposed long term cultural change and the adoption of continuous improvement principles alongside shorter term process change to remove duplication and waste.

HMIC “Police Governance in Austerity” – October 2010

This report identifies what is important for police authorities to focus on in order to respond to the unprecedented challenge  for making difficult decisions on where cuts should fall as a result of the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review budget reductions.  

The Government’s “National Security Strategy” – October 2010

This outlines the reappraisal of Britain’s role in the world, the risks to our security and their implication for the UK.  The strategy has been drawn up by the new National Security Council as part of an assessment of Britain’s defence needs.

Policing in the 21st Century” – July 2010

This consultation document set out the Government's vision for policing and how it proposes to  cut crime and protect the public , be more directly accountable to the public and offer value for money.  This is where the introduction of Police and Crime Commissioners was proposed along with less Government intervention and bureaucracy and more professional responsibility and judgement and a new policing and partnership landscape.

HMIC “Valuing the Police” – July 2010

This report considers the effect that budget cuts on policing and in particular, sustaining the number of police who are visible and available to the public.

Audit Commission’s / HMIC ‘s “Sustaining Value for Money in the Police Service” – July 2010

This report proposes that £1 billion can be saved without cutting services to the public.  It proposes forces begin with a ‘threat, harm, risk’ assessment to help make decisions by linking policing priorities to resource management. 

A joint report “Police Value for Money” February 2010 builds on the Government’s Policing White Paper and provides further detail on how savings of at least £545m will be delivered.  The report was compiled by representatives from the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Association of Police Authorities, the National Policing Improvement Agency, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and the Home Office.

South Yorkshire Police produces a raft of performance information which report on South Yorkshire Police’s performance against Statutory Performance Indicators (SPIs) and local performance indicators.
