The Nine Protected Characteristics
The Equality Act 2010 is intended to promote and protect the dignity of all people in society. This involves, where appropriate, dealing with specific needs of persons with particular protected characteristics. In some cases this may involve balancing needs associated with different characteristics.
Public Authorities are required to consider socio-economic (class) disadvantage in the planning and monitoring of the services they provide.

In September 2009 SYP launched the Autism Awareness scheme at the Town Hall in Rotherham. This event was well received by members of the public, organisations etc.
