The Adopt a School initiative links police community support officers (PCSOs) to primary schools across South Yorkshire. Based within safer neighbourhood teams, PCSOs work with one or more primary schools in their area and make regular visits, providing all primary schools in the county with a local single point of contact within South Yorkshire Police.

PCSOs participate in PSHE and citizenship lessons led by the teacher. Lessons may include topics such as:

• alcohol and drugs
• personal safety
• internet safety
• road safety
• crime and consequence
• anti-social behaviour
