Home Security

Many burglaries occur when people have left a door unlocked or a window open. It is important to keep your doors locked and windows secure at all times, even when you are at home. It only takes seconds for someone to sneak in through an unlocked door or to reach in through an open window to steal from you.

A good way of checking if your home security is up to standard is to imagine you have lost your house key. How would you get in? If you find it quite easy then so will anyone else.

Protecting your home is quite easy and does not have to cost the earth.

Good lighting is an excellent way to deter a thief. Fitting exterior lighting with dusk to dawn sensors is a good idea. These are light sensitive; they come on when it gets dark and turn off when it gets light. Using low wattage bulbs means they can be a very cheap and effective security deterrent.

Your garden has a big role to play in deterring burglars, check out our ‘Gardenwise’ leaflet for further details.

Burglar Alarms are an effective deterrent and can provide you and your family with peace of mind. Government statistics show that 60% of burglaries on homes fitted with burglar alarms are unsuccessful so it really is worth investing in a home security system.
